Immigrant? Or Expatriate?

Caveat lector: This badkat is in a very irreverent mood…

So… when an American person moves to Indonesia, he/she becomes an expat but an Indonesian person (like myself) moves to America he/she becomes an immigrant. What’s up with that?

And let’s not even start with the disparity of income, benefits and the social status that comes under the label of “expatriate”.

Neo-colonialism, anyone?
